Yesterday I had two trips….both for crappie.

The crappie are really starting to turn on in the shallows and almost all are full of eggs.

On my first trip we started trolling with our 6 rods and Crappie Magnets on 1/32oz in front of Lamar Hill(the main channel). I kept the boat in 8ft-12ft and trolled at .7-.9mph. We caught around 15 with 8 keepers really quickly. Then we moved down into the Spring Creek and Fall Creek area and trolled the bay on the left just before you get to Spring Creek. There we caught 10 more with 4 keepers. Purple/Chart seemed to be a hot color.

Then we trolled the mouth of Fall Creek. We had a few short fish, but now keepers. I decided to try the back of the Fall Creek around the stumps casting 1/16oz…… only 3 keepers back there after 45 minutes. However, the only color I could get them to hit was Fast Lane(blue and silver).

We headed back over to the mouth of Larmar and picked up 6 more keepers on the same ledge trolling

Lastly we took one lap on the flat at Stewarts Creek(on the right before the long point) and caught one more keeper there.

On my second trip I want to try some different areas. So, we headed over to the youth camp past the second cut through and started casting minnows and floats to brushpiles in 8ft-10ft. After 4 brushpiles we had 6 nice keepers! Then we headed back up lake a little and fished the back side of the island at the first cut through. Fishing with our floats in 4ft and casting 1/16oz jigs(pink/chart) we caught 3 more keepers and several short fish.

We motored over Jones Mills and start casting our floats to wood cover. There the crappie were really biting! We caught 15 keepers including several over 1lb! Our float was set 3ft-5ft. There was a lot of bait in there as well as yellow bass and white bass.

Lastly we hit the first cove on the left after you pass Bryants Grove boat and head towards Hong Kong Island. Water to low there for the cover I wanted to fish……nothing.

All and all, GREAT day. Total my boat brought in 42 keepers! The shallow crappie season has started!

Went by myself today put in at Jefferson springs around 0700. Ran towards the main lake and found some stumps in 3-5 ft of water next to a drop off. Was sitting in 12ft casting into the stumps. Got a few fish on minnows but hammered them on a 1/16th oz jig with my favorite bobby garland 2 inch minnow chartreuse and blue. There was no question about hits when they bit they slammed it!! Caught 30 fish in that one spot with 14 keepers some were chunks. Then cruised back up lack passed Jefferson bridge. Caught 10 more fish with 2 more keepers. No fish found on fish attractors all fish were on BIG wood logs and stumps. Called it a day because I got sun burned on the top of my feet haha. Only 4 of my fish were female the rest were all males including the bigger ones.

I fished East Fork for a couple of hours after work today 4:30 to 7 pm. I caught 8 crappie with 4 keepers, all on minnows and bobber. A couple of LM bass and a bluegill. All small. I am headed back out Friday morning at PP before leaving for KY lake for a four day weekend crappie fishing. Sure would like to catch 20 keepers on Friday morning. I always seem to do better for crappie in the morning. I haven’t been able to fish early at PP for a couple of weeks…work gets in the way and was at Chick last weekend. Sounds like fall creek and spring creek sound promising but I will start in East fork again. Only one female today and the rest were males. 3 -7 foot of water was the depth and all were on large wood also. I did have one nice black crappie today and it was a male. Tight lines ya’ll.

Fished stewards creek for a few hours yesterday. I had a hit on every cast on a trout magnet. My brother caught a 5.5 pound bass on a crappie magnet.
