Any info for May would be helpful
Posted by tnbassman10 on March 31, 2016 at 4:09 amI have to fish Center Hill in May. I haven’t fished Center Hill in over 3 years. Despite going to Tennessee Tech for undergrad and grad school, I never really managed to find anything on Center Hill (partly because after starting the fishing team my freshman year I was constantly traveling for that). I always found myself going back home to Old Hickory lake or shooting over to Cordell Hull which fishes a lot like Old Hickory Lake. Center Hill I was only able to really catch fish when it was freezing cold outside. A few times I can remember in April/May I’d put in a Cookeville boat dock and just mess around. I’d always catch some fish but never anything to win any tournaments. Any advice would be appreciated. Going out of Edgar Evins.

I fish the little coves and pockets above Sligo with spooks and jerkbaits.

That’s a long run from Edgar Evins. I don’t know if I’ll go that far. Hopefully I can find something with a top water bite. I’d love to catch them on top water.

I too look forward to hearing how your day at CH goes…I will be there for a tourney in a couple weeks and have never fished the lake. Thinking about heading up on Sat to check it out.
Any help or insight will be appreciated! -

I put in at hurricane ramp and went up a few miles near mine lick. I focused on main lake pockets with boulders on the points. We struggled most of the day, but was able to catch 5 in one cove, including a 3.5lb and 3lb. All fish caught on 1/4oz shaky heads with black /red trick work and Hoppy’s rattling brush hog 1/4 Oz black /brown, blue, with green Paca chuck. Fish came out of 6-10ft. Water temp was 58.

Brian, would you suggest focusing on the same area and approach this weekend?
Thanks!

Yes I would. I know shaky heads in 4ft-8ft has been productive in coves and this is the time if year I LOVE to get on the bluff walls in 80-100ft and throw a double or triple silver willow white or white/chartreuse spinnerbait(1/2oz). Cast the bait directly to the bluff, let it sink for 4-6 seconds, pump it once hard, and then slowly retrieve it in. The smallmouth will slam it!!!! Water temp need to be 60-65.

Brian does this spinner bait technique work on other lakes in middle TN (Old Hickory and/or Priest) or is it just a Center Hill or highland reservoir type of thing?
-
Yes I’ve had luck on all 3 with them but asking if that specific bluff wall technique translates to other lakes besides Center Hill in that low to mid 60 degree temp range? I’m guessing yes but I’m just now getting back into bass fishing some after 20 years or so trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks again for your response.

I haven’t had the same experience on bluff walls on other lake like I have on Center Hill

Ok thanks for the info. Going to have to try that on CH.
