Fished a tournament Saturday at OH with 60 boats and I believe top 10 places won money and gift cards. Big fish was 6.59lb. We fished from flippers to cedar creek with water temp from 49-50. Our first stop in station camp I was throwing an TN rig and my first cast bam a hit but a 13inch LM. We fished and fished and threw everything you can imagine but just couldn’t find them. Shallow, deep and even some wood off the channel. Our last stop we pulled in a pocket off the channel with good current. Once again throwing the TN rig boom 2lber. 2 more casts another one. I was hoping they were stacked up in there but that was it. Only 3 fish one keeper. Fun day with my buddy and loved the challenge but didn’t like the results. First place was 19.92 and 10th was 12.42.

Had the same experience. Launched from Rockland and fished all different type of depths and structure to little avail. OH appeared to be almost unusually clear on the lower end so I wish I would have throw a jerkbait but ending up catching two, one keeper.

Yeah the guy who had 19+lbs was throwing a TN-rig. I also know someone (through someone else) who finished around 5th who had 13.5lbs. They claim they caught over 4 limits of keepers that day. He said they were all pretty shallow and it was one of the best times he’s had on Old Hickory. They couldn’t catch much size but says they culled at least 15 times. I don’t know if I believe all of that but glad somebody caught them this weekend.

I was out there Saturday, It was a rough day for catching anything with size for me. Caught 20+ short fish…only one over 14 inches. I Started off in the mouth of Spencer creek. I also noticed the water was unusually clear so I threw the jerkbait. I was consistently catching fish at the mouth of the creek, then moved down lake to a pocket off the main channel and found another group schooled up tight, again nothing but short fish. I was not tournament fishing so I just kinda sat and was happy catching the dinks, Cant say I really made to much of an effort to look for different fish..I was just happy catching lol.

How deep were you finding these fish? And it sounds like they were still close to the main channel…?

I was fishing pretty shallow, my boat was sitting in about 8 feet of water and was casting to the bank, catching them pretty close to the bank. Maybe 2-4ft of water. All the fish I found where in little shallow pockets, directly off the channel. I Really havent got up in the backs of the creeks yet, thats where im going to start off this weekend.

I’m also going to be going out this weekend in search for some active bass. Hopefully the bite is better. I’m just hoping the rain can hold off until Sunday night. Then it can rain as long as the lake clears up a little by next weekend.

Struck out on the upper end of the lake Saturday morning. Earlier in the week I fished in the back of Cedar creek and did very well, Caught lots of fish and a few good keepers. Fishing very shallow rock banks with a shad rap and flats with a rattletrap.

I went out to Station Camp on Saturday afternoon and had a decent day on number but only caught a couple keepers. I started at the back of the creek where the water temp was in the low 60s and caught my best one (16″) flipping a shallow bush. I continued out towards the main lake, which was around 58-59 degrees, and found all of my bites coming within the smaller pockets off the main creek, flipping shallow wood cover. Only caught a couple dinks cranking. Nothing came off textbook prespawn staging area on the main creek channel either.

I had a really good day Saturday on the lower end of the lake, mostly Drakes Creek. Caught a lot of fish and good size too (best 5 went for just over 18 lbs). Most were caught shallow (< 3 ft) on rattle trap or square bill near rip rap banks, grass or wood cover. Also caught a few on a deeper point in about 10 – 12 ft of water on a 3xd and 1/2 oz football jig.
Seems like most of the fish are either in spawning pockets or staging close by.

I’m going there in the AM before work. Hopefully a couple of hours in the back of the creek will do me some good. I need a good day (or couple hours) of fishing for once.

Went out this morning before work. Fished 1 hour 45 min. Caught 5 fish with 2 keepers but the 2 keepers come on nearly back-to-back casts and both weight 3.5+lbs! I think I may have found something for my tournament on Saturday.

Getting in a couple hours before?! Kudos to you, man. That’s dedication! Good luck in the tourney.
