Has anyone had any success fishing the lower end of Priest?
We went out on Saturday for a couple of hours in the afternoon and only caught one fish and missed several others. We found water in the very low 50’s in the back of Suggs around Cable Cross Island. However, wherever we could find warmer water, the visibility just wasn’t where it needed to be. We also ran across a MASSIVE school of bluegill in less than a foot of water in the back of Turtle Cove with 45 degree water. Water was also warming up in the back pockets of Old Hickory cove. Obviously, we spent probably more time running around than fishing, but I get the feeling that lower end will be turning on in a couple weeks. The cooler weather this week seems like it will drop the water temp a couple degrees – or at least not bump it up at all.

The 6lb,6oz LM that my buddy caught Saturday was hooked in the small cove to the left of Party Cove. The smallies should be getting active on that end of the lake.

    that’s funny,
instead of fishing that pocket we ran to Old Hickory Cove. my thinking was that the fish should have been starting to move off the channel up to those pockets off the main lake. based on previous years though, we knew we’d find warmer water in OH Cove. being short on time, we headed that way instead. next time, i’ll stick with my gut. that was a really nice fish.

I’m wishing that I would have used my better judgment and went to the lower end on Sunday. Instead I launched from the Stewart Creek ramp and it was a lost cause in that chocolate milk. I packed up and left early for maybe the first time ever!

I think I’ll try and get over to that area this weekend. If I do, I’ll write up a nice lil’ report for everyone… hopefully it’s a “report worthy” day.

    yeah,
my apologies for no report… i’m embarrassed that my fishing partner caught one and my son caught a bass the next day and i was skunked for the weekend. i’ll at least put together a little lake report later today.
