The water is warming back up and finally stabilizing……just in time for another front to come next week!

I fished with 2 clients yesterday from 12-7:30pm. We started in the back of Stewart Creek near the boat ramp. The water is really clear back there and I felt the bass should be starting to turn on. Even though the water was near 60, we only caught one short fish. We were all casting soft plastic creature baits, Texas rig. 5 hot spots I hit back there were: 1. The rock, mud flat transition just before the boat ramp 2. the cut through across from the boat ramp that goes behind the island. There are a bunch of stumps and boulders on the middle of the cut through that are consistently productive 4. Back side of island on the deep rocks off point 5. Long point across from the rip rap bank.

Next we headed into Spring Creek. Starting in the back at the feeder creek, we fish the bank across the channel. Fishing with our Texas-rigs creature bait. We caught 3 short fish there. Black and blue and green pumpkin were productive colors.

Third spot, the back of Fall Creek. Cast our soft plastics to stumps and rocks in 3ft-5ft (200 yards before the 840 bridge), we caught 1 short fish.

Usually, this time of year when the water is 60 degrees the bass are really active in the creeks on many different baits. This year has been very weird. I still think it will get hot!

Next, I traveled up to Sister Cove. Fishing with our creature baits we started in the middle at the back. We fished to the right(going back to Fate Sanders). There we caught 4 including one 4lb! I had the boat in 4ft-7ft, casting into 1ft-3ft and dragging back slowly. We fished to the point near the PVC pole and then saddled up.

Then we motored to Jones Mill Cove and fished from the boat ramp to the back. Fishing the big boulder rocks with our Texas Rigs we caught one 2.5lb….black and blue again! I had the boat in 4ft-6ft, casting into 2ft. The good part about all these spots is that they are protected by the SW winds.

I wanted to try a few coves down lake so I motored to Smith Springs. The water was 56, which is a little cooler, but not a bad temperature. We fished the far back cove past the YMCA dock. I like to fish the next point from the dock towards the back of the next cove where there are two long rock points that you can see from the bank. They extend out 100 yards! From 0ft to 8ft…..great place for spring bass to stage! We only had one bite on the point, but it was a near 3lb! Once again, black and blue in 6ft.

Then I hit the back of the YMCA cove with the slides. Fishing the left side of the bank we caught one short fish on blk/blue creature bait and then a 2.5lb keeper on a spook(right near the slides). I had 3 more strikes on my spook, but they did not hook up.

Lastly, we fished behind Fate Sanders. Finally when we arrived to the back right of the cove, we saw bait on the surface with a few surface breaks. We only
had 20 minutes, but in that time we caught 1 on a buzzbait, 1 one a spook and had 2 more strikes on the spook that did not hook up.

The fish were not super active and the creeks definitely let me done, but we still caught over a dozen with several keepers! I am not done with the creeks though. Hope they turn on soon.
