Today I went out for a short trip with some regular clients in the evening and we tore them up!
I have been tearing them up in just a few spots!
The first spot we fished was the cove across from the Youth Inc campground just passed the second cut through coming from Fate Sanders. We started on the right point at the mouth of the cove. With the boat a cast away from the bank in 5ft-7ft we cast 1/4oz shaky heads with green pumpkin/purple flake 6 3/4″ Zoom Trick Worms. Dragging our worms all the way to the boat we caught 5 bass, including 2 keepers! Once we reached the back of the cove we headed down lake.
Our next spot was Mouse Tail Island the second big island going down lake before passing Hobson Pike bridge. Fishing the east side of the island towards Long Hunter state park we started on the long rocky point. Still fishing with the same lures we sat in 7ft casting to the bank. First we worked the north side of the island for 100 yards and caught 8, including a 5lb! Two of the other were keepers and the rest were short bass(but fun). Then we idled around the point and started fishing the south side. The first 50 yards we sat in 6ft-8ft casting to the bank. Again, we caught another 5lb and several other quality fish. The biggest fish came on the boulder rocks 30 yards up the bank.
The sun started to fall and we headed back into our first cove across from Youth Inc. I wanted to try topwater lures in there because there was bait flickering there earlier in our trip and the wind was blowing right in. My plan did not pan out. The bait did not move into the back of the shallow cove and there were no bass chasing them. We did manage to catch 2 short bass and a nice hybrid on poppers, but that was it.
All and all….easy, fun, awesome day!!!!
