What a fantastic day on the lake. The fish we caught were scattered throughout up and mid lake and the water temperature ranged between 57-62.
We started our day on the main point at the mouth of Stewart Creek. This is the main point on the left before you enter the creek. Casting 2.75 squareB crankbaits(sexy shad) to the rocks on the bank, I caught a 3lb on my 2nd cast! The boat was in 6ft and the fish was sitting in 3ft. We fished down the bank towards Weakley Lane bridge 50 yards with no bites and packed it up.
Pulled into Sister Cove and fished the right point with the same crankbaits…..nada
As stated before, I’m ready to fish mid and down lake more. I headed past the 3rd cut through going towards Four Corners. Once we got to the second point where there is a green channel buoy, we stopped and started fishing the back of the cove. We only fished 50 yards where the chuck rock comes off the bank into the shallow water and caught our second fish on same 2.75 SquareB sexy shad color. I kept the boat in 5ft and the fish was in 3ft.
The wind was starting to pick up so we headed behind the big island in between us and Hobson Pike. The north side of the island was protected so we fished soft plastic worms and lizards in 3ft-6ft. We caught 3 short fish there on Prowler Craws(fished Texas rig with 3/16oz) before the wind got us and we moved.
Next was the YMCA cove with the big slides in the back. Still fishing the Blk/Blue craws we caught one short bass on the left bank going in. He was in about 4ft. Then I broke off on a giant right next to the slides where there was a water pump hose under the water in 2ft. We lost another good fish on the sand of the swimming area on a Craw(Green Pumkpin and lime). Fishing the opposite bank back out we caught 2 more short fish.
If you are going under the Hobson Pike bridge heading down lake and pass the two islands on the left “hotel/motel” and then pass the next bluff in the left “Hole in the wall”, the next bluff wall on the right ends at a cove that swings back to the right. In that cove(water 2.5ft clarity and 59 degrees), we caught 5(including a 2.5lb) bass in 4ft-8ft on our plastic craws and 1 bass on a Spook 4.0 in 1ft of water…4+lbs!
Our final spot was back up lake behind the Smyrna pumphouse. The water has raised around 1.5ft-2ft from last week and a lot of the structure has more/enough water back there to hold fish. Entering from the down lake side we fished about 150 yards with 4 short fish on 2.75 SquareB chart/shad cranks. Then I picked up my black/blue craw and started casting into 1ft-3ft. Within 5 minutes I stuck a 5.13lb large beauty! What a fight she gave!!!! As we fished further, 5 more, including a 2.lb and a couple 2lbs. They were on the stumps and boulder rocks. The water temperature was 62, clarity 1ft, and there was a little current from the last rain.
Great day!!!! Go gett’em boys!
