The last week has been up and down for the crappie…..mostly up!

Today I fished for crappie for 2 hours before bass fishing and it was tough on us. Trolling in 6-7ft with Crappie Magnets o 1/32oz jigs, we only caught around 15 with 8 keepers. We started behind Fate Sanders where I have heard a lot of talk about tons of crappie being caught casting /16oz jigs. We trolled the entire cove and only caught 6 with 3 keepers.

Then we trolled the 200 yards stretch between Fate Sanders and Weakley Lane bridge and caught around 10 with 5 keepers. With the crappie not being very active we switched to bass and caught 8 mid lake.

Earlier in the week we really got into the crappie trolling in Lamar Hill in 6-7ft. The most of our crappie on some of our best days were caught just up from Lamar Hill in the cut through behind the islands. Once you get to end of the cut through there is a PVC pipe. Trolling from the PVC pipe to Spring Creek, staying in 6-8ft on the mud flat, we caught 30+ keepers the other day. There is a lot of brush scattered on that stretch. Every time we went over brush out rods would load up. There did not appear to be any dominate color, they were so active they just wanted to eat!

I heard Fall Creek has slowed down so I did not spent any time in there.

Very simple few areas that have produced tons of crappie recently. Another warm day or two with warmer nights and it will be back on fire!

    Brian,

How much longer do you think the crappie fishing will stay as hot as the last two weeks? I would imagine that it would be winding down in the next week to 10 days. I was thinking about bass fishing on Sunday, but if the crappie are still pretty hot, I may switch species. 🙂

    Hey Brian,

Are you talking about those two very shallow islands right beside the Lamar Hill Coordinate you gave us ? Trolling the left bank heading towards Spring Creek ?

Thanks for the clarification. I am going Saturday morning and wanted to clarify.

    Thanks,

Have you ever tried inside the cove for crappie in Lamar Hill? I was thinking about walking down there tommorow.
