April 6
The last two days I’ve been in hunt for crappie in the shallows. Today we had 35 keepers on combine trips and the other day we had upper 20s. The creeks are cooler than the main lake which is odd. The main lake near Fate Sanders has been between 59-61 degrees while the creeks have been 56-58. I have been fishing in 1 to 4 feet of water on several banks within a mile of Fate Sanders.
Fate Sanders Cove has been productive, Jones Mill Cove, around Weakley lane bridge, coves across from Fate Sanders, and near Pooles Knob boat ramp. The key pattern has been boulder rocks on gradual banks with gravel and isolated. We’ve been casting floats on 1/16oz jigs with green/blue, green/chartreuse, and blue/chartreuse Crappie Magnets. I’ve also been using floats with live minnows. Our leader from the float to jig ranges between 18 inches to 3 ft. Saturday and Sunday may slow down the bite, but next week the temperatures are in the 60s/70s and should really fire everything back up for weeks to come.
