Last night I joined a friend of mine for the Monday night tournament out of Long Branch from 6:30pm-9:30pm. It was a tough 3 hours to say the least.

We started fishing the channel drop in front of Bluegrass. We had the boat in 27ft and were casting into 8ft. We could see the bass on the structure scan. but could only get one keeper to bite on my 1/2oz shaky head with a Zoom watermelon/red flake trick worm(my first cast…..go figure). We did get several taps on swim jigs and A-rigs too.

We moved to the islands just down from Cedar Creek on the right and started casting frogs, buzzbaits and crankbaits in the shallow grass(3ft-6ft)….nada.
We only had 1 hour left so we headed back into Cedar Creek and fished the bridge past the Long Branch boat ramp. We had a few bites with no hook-ups. We fished the entire left bank heading back to Long Branch with no bite until we were 50 yards to the ramp. I lost 2 on a swimjig(which will be in the BCGS store soon along with many other new lures), and my buddy lost 2 on a biffle head/Paca Craw.

Tough nite, I think 5lbs was 2nd place and 1st 8lbs. Its hard to search for fish in 3 hours. Almost best to just put the trolling motor down and start fishing a consistent spot and see where the chips fall.

did they take off late due to the weather?
We decided not to go based on the amount of rain over the weekend and that day.
