The last two days I have been out from 6am-12pm chasing the crappie. Wednesday was phenomenal! We launched out of Four Corners and started headed towards Long Hunter boat ramp when we witnesses hundreds of white bass and hybrids schooling on the right at the mouth of the cut through heading up lake. We were probably 1,000 yards away and we could see them busting the surface. We looked at each other, smiled and turned the boat towards the school. We had the boat in 15ft, right on the ledge that drops into 70ft and cast in EVERY direction where fish were feeding. I had an A-rig on at first and my client had a neon green/chart Crappie Magnet on 1/8oz jig head. After 5 minutes he had caught several fish and I had not had a bite yet so I switched to a white Crappie Magnet and started catching fish after fish.
After the fish died down we started bouncing around on brushpiles from Ponderosa to Pooles Knob Campground to the Youth Inc bank. Wednesday we caught 25 keepers in 4 hours! The crappie were biting well on live bait in 13ft-18ft. Thursday I had to fish around 20 brushpiles in the same areas just to get 20 keepers in 6 hours…..it was a lot tougher yesterday! Some of our best crappie yesterday came off brushpile near the Youth Inc dock. There are a couple BCGS coordinates around there that were holding fish.
Ill be fishing the 7pm-5am bass tournament Saturday night. Hopefully I’ll have a great night report. It’s going to be a long night…..I got my Red Bulls ready to go! Hopefully I’m not that guy nodding off in church sunday morning!
