Crappie fishing has been better the last 4 weeks, but I finally we had an amazing day yesterday. Fishing with the Hagman we set a goal of 40 for the day! By the end of the day we caught 50 and had 32 keepers…. which we were very pleased with.
All of our crappie came off live minnows fished 2 to 3 feet off the bottom with the exception of 3 that were caught on a Tennessee Shad Crappie Magnet on a chartreuse 1/8oz crappie jig. We fished twenty-something trees with most of them offering 0-1 to crappie. However, we had several spots and areas that coughed up 4 to 6 keepers…..which helped us get a good stringer. Some of the most productive areas were across from the Bryant’s Grove boat ramp along the sand point that comes way out near the red buoy. The flat out in front of Hong Kong Island. The mouth of Bryant’s Grove Cove near the cypress tree that grows out of the water and around Fate Sanders near the main channel. All these spots we caught fish in 11 to 16 feet of water. We did fish around Mousetail Island, Long Hunter, and Ponderosa with very little action.
It was nice to see the crappie consistently being swung into the boat! I’ll be out tomorrow bass fishing all day, so hopefully we can have a great day with them as well!
