Yesterday I was out from 630am-1030am. Crappie fishing on the pontoon boat with one of my regulars we had a steady morning of catching. At the end of the trips we caught around 20 crappie, including 8 keepers(2 of which were 16″), yellow bass, catfish, and bluegills! Most of the fish came on live minnows tight lined 2ft off the bottom, but I did catch several crappie, including one of the big ones on a 1/8oz jig with solid hot pink body and a green/chart body.
We started on a couple brushpiles on the long point in front of Stewart’s Creek. This is the point that falls off into the main channel at the mouth of Stewarts Creek. Fishing in in 14ft-16ft we never had a bite. Next we moved over to the Youth Inc area. We spent 3.5 hours there fishing brushpiles on the hump and the bank near the Youth Inc dock. All the trees were in 13ft-16ft. There was never any trees that were on fire…they all produced 1-4 fish though.
It was a very relaxing morning for once. Only 2 spots, I sat down the entire time, and had tons of bites. The crappie have been biting fair, but after 10am it’s so hot I don’t want to fish anymore!
