Yesterday I had three trips, two of which were for bass. My first bass trip was in the morning from 6-10am. With thoughts of heading back into the river to try and catch the schooling bass, I decided to try a few closer areas first. I pulled up to the Weakley Lane bridge, put the trolling motor down and told the clients to sit tight for just a minute so I could see if the bass were active. I took one cast with my weightless chartreuse fluke and a bass came up and smacked it! I handed two rods to my clients and told them to do exactly what I did. The next 30 minutes we fished around the bridge without a sniff!

I headed up to the Jefferson Pike bridge and copied our technique. The first 60 seconds we had 2 fish on that managed to unhook themselves. Another 25 minutes without a bite and we were out of there.

We motored into Stewarts Creek and started fishing SquareB 2.75 in Chart Shad and Sexy Shad on the point across from the rip rap bank just past the back boat ramp. Fishing in 3ft-6ft we had two bites casting to the trees on the point. We trolled up to the next bend and switched to shaky heads with sour grape trick worms. Fishing on the left bank we caught 2 bass in 6ft right on the rocks. Then we tried the other side of the channel on the flat…..nada. We continued up creek 50 yards to the next bend and fished on the right bank just before the bluff wall started. There we caught 2 including one around 3lbs! We were casting into 3ft and dragging over a ledge that dropped into 10ft. The bass were sitting at the bottom of the drop. We motored up to the next bend about 50 yards up creek and had one more bite that we missed.

As we were headed back to Fate Sanders we stopped at the big point on the right that falls into the main channel. Casting into 12ft with our shaky heads….nothing.

My last trip was for bass as well. Now this trip was completely different! We only really fished one spot and the bass were cooperating. I pulled up to the long point at Jones Mills and marked TONS of bass on my structure scan. I tied on a 1/2oz jig with a Paca craw(green/brown) and a Texas rig Paca Chuck(watermelon) for my clients. We put the boat in 25-40 feet and cast into 12ft on top of the ledge. We started about the middle of the cove and fished the ledge all the way to the point. The first pass we caught 2, a 3lb and short bass. I lost 2 on a drop shot and we had 2 more pull off the Texas rig Paca Chunck:( That did not stop us or the fish. Shortly after the bass started to come to the surface to feed. We all grabbed our flukes and started casting and it was on, fish after fish. The next 3 hours the bass stayed in a frenzy allowing us to catch around 30!!!! After a little while the flukes died down so we began casting deep diving crankbaits(DT22s in shad color) and kept catching them. What a ball. I love it when the fish make my job easy!

We culled two fish by fishing that Jones Mill point towards the end of the tournament last night. Weighed in 11 lbs, but was not enough to get an envelope.

Are you guys starting in the small cove on the NW side of the point (where the Jones Mill Rd access is)?
