I have not been on the lake for a month so I decided to go to East/West fork and try my favorite spots for bass. I launched at 5:15 AM at the east fork ramp and headed to the first old bridge to the left. On the right side I caught 4 small bass and missed two others that turned at the boat. I had to smoke that crank bait to get them to bite but as soon as you paused they would smack it. I was fishing a yellow Norman DD 9-12 but only fishing in 5 to 9 fow. Grinding the rocks was key to strikes. The spot cooled off and I was at the old bridge in west fork cranking the old pilings and rocks by 6:30. I caught four bass all on the same crank in shad color on the left hand side. I fished the ledge before the old bridge and caught my biggest bass of the day but it was still not a keeper. I decided to try some shallow coves with a spook and frog. After trolling 3 coves and only one strike on top water I gave up and switched back to the crank by 8:30. I fished a few flats with no luck and went back to the east fork ramp area. I caught 3 more there on the same crank but all were small schoolers. Left at 10:15….good morning and was glad to put up some numbers at least. Looks like the bass are setting up in summer patterns. I’m ready for running the fluke in the big schools of bass in the hot months. One of my favorite ways to fish but they wanted something too fast to fish a fluke today. Good luck all.
