They can be caught in about every piece of the water column. We fished last Friday and was catching quality keepers on 6XDs sitting in 20-25 ft of water and casting into 8-10 feet. Went back on Sunday and caught quality keepers in less than 5 ft of water on rattle traps. The key is finding the bait with active feeding bass around. If you see bait and fish on your graphs and they won’t bite…come back later. On our primary spot last Friday, they quit biting after an hour or so, so we moved on. We came back by 2-3 hrs later and the shad was active on top of the water and bass were feeding. We proceeded to catch spots and largemouth on topwater in 20 ft of water. The key is to be willing to burn some gas to find the active feeders. The fish are on the move to the creeks and backs of coves and the cool/wet weather this week is going to make them go absolutely crazy.
