I purchased my first boat a few months ago and have been able to get on the water six or seven times. Seems to run great and starts right up every time. I had a knowledgable friend check it out before I bought it, but I would like to have a pro check it carefully and service it. Not being a mechanical guy, I don’t want to take any chances. Boat and trailer are ’96 Javelin with a 50 hp Johnson that is the same age. Questions:

    1. What should have have looked at/serviced?
    2. What should I expect to pay?
    3. Is Anderson Marine is my best bet in the area (I live in Smyrna)?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I would say your looking at $200-$300, but on a smaller motor like yours it might be cheaper. There are several places around smyrna you can go, but I trust and have 100% confidence in Anderson Marina. You can be sure they will treat you right.

Congrats on your new boat. Team marine over by four corners have been good to me. Been to Anderson marine too. I keep my boat less that ten minutes from team marine. It’s works best for me.

I’m not sure if teybservice Johnsons and it is a bit of a haul, but I have had great experiences with Clark Marine. In terms of turn around times, I have found that always get my boat in and out faster than their estimates. It’s outside of Franklin on Old Peytonsville Road.
