Was going to wait until daybreak, but not getting much sleep, so hooked the boat up and am heading for Fate Sanders. Am planning to fish the left point of the cove on the right after the first cut-through heading down river. Last week when cloudy, schooling bass and rockfish were hitting almost anything thrown their way. Hopefully, this morning will be a repeat with the rain and all.

Started off in the dark windy rain. Took refuge along the bluffs beneath Weakley Lane Bridge until daybreak. Had a few bites on Texas Rig, but only caught one small bass.

At daybreak went to intended cove. Noticed huge balls of shad on depth finder. Nothing was breaking the surface, but decided to try the fluke anyway. Fish after fish after fish. Several keepers to start, then later as the schools surfaced lots of 14″ fish including a few spots. At one time the water appeared to be boiling all around me. Wind was still strong, so I dropped the anchor. Never moving for 3+ hours, I caught probably 50 fish.

Tried a buzzbait with no luck. Then caught 1 on spinnerbait. Went back to the fluke and it was back to slaying ’em.

How deep where you fishing the fluke? And how did you fish it?

I twitch it just below the surface with it occasionally making a ripple. Usually one jerk, pause, then 2 quick jerks.

I caught several on a clown color Zara spook but didn’t try a fluke. We missed some good ones early but after 9 it shut off for us. There are still fish in Bryant’s cove. The one cove to the left of rock island had some good fish in there to. All fish were on Zara spooks and the wife caught a good one on a 4 inch lizard. Green pumpkin.
