Not an expert by any means, nor even an avid angler for catfish, but 2 out of the last 3 times (including this morning) that I fished where the long point across from Stewarts Ferry launch area meets the bank I have caught a 7-8 lb cat. Both were caught off the shallow big rocks, one a flathead, and the other a channel cat.

I have caught a (3) 8 – 10 lb. flatheads on yellow crankbaits at the old roadbeds in East and West fork….two last summer and one this summer. All those flatheads were in less than 5 foot of water. My crappie buddy and I caught many small channel cats long lining for crappie this spring in the mouths of Sister cove and the Ski course cove…those were in 10 – 14 foot of water. Those fish were caught trolling 1/16 oz. crappie jigs. I have been wanting to take my teenage son cat fishing some evening, let us know how you do!

Caught one today all the way in the back of stewards creek today. Scale read 13 pounds. I caught it on a Go 2 10 inch paddle worm.

I’m heading back to nickajack Thursday that’s where you need to go only 1 hour 20 minute drive last time I went we had 36 cats mostly channels with a couple blue’s over 10 pounds well over 100 pounds of fish and that’s about the average number we catch each time we go.

My son caught a flathead about 15-20 lbs during the Friday Night Tournament. Thought he had a money fish until it refused to surface.
