catfish jug fishing
Posted by chawchaw on April 30, 2015 at 4:15 amhey guys, i was going to get into some jug fishing next week. i figure night time is the right time, last year i did a little around the four corners area, with zero luck. is there a certain part of the lake that the cats live in , is upper better than lower. also what should i look for on my lowrance to be a good catfish spot to drop some floats. any tips would be awesome, thanks a lot!

Chaw chaw I have never done alot of jug fishing but this may help. Years ago I had a buddy name snake now don’t
Let the name throw ya off he was one of the best fellows you would have ever met. This was when Castle Rock ran Fate Sanders at night open24hrs. Some people on here may remember him. Another good guy. Anyway snake always jug fished. And about the only place he would set out was the long rock bluff in front of Jones Mill ramp. He always did pretty good fishing. In fact he called me one night to come him get one in the boat just so he could weigh it in at the dock. It came in at 68lbs. Course all you can do with that is get a few bragging rights and roll it back in the water. He said something that big is good brood stock and not much good for eating. Anyway Castle helded us wiegh it roll it back off the dock. But snake also caught a hole bunch of dinners on this stretch as well. And he all most always used brim he had caught for bait. Anytime I. Think about jug fishing snake always comes to mind. He told me 72lbs was his biggest and I have no reason to dought him. So if I was to go out jugging, well this would be my plan. Hope it helps you. Does anyone else remember these two fellows. -

Awesome. Thank ya. Ill start there for sure. i figure bluffs were a good place to start bc i watched some guys on youtube. I love bass and crappie fishin but my schedule kinda limits me to nighttime now and i figure itd be fun to mark where i set jugs and slowly go around checkin them with a buddy. I know the laws in tennesse about it and wont leave any jugs for boaters to get tangled up. Just wanna get some catfish fillets .

Chaw Chaw one thing Snake did I forgot to mention was he made up this concoction that stunk to high heaven and he would just soak trout line between the jug and the hook with it. He said the smell would draw the fish toward the brim. Just a trick u might try.

I used to jug fish before I got married. My wife hates catfish and has grown real fond of crappie, so I primarly crappie fish now.
I used to catch a LOT of catfish between the pump house along that bank that runs next to hong kong island. I used to jug fish there a lot and caught several. Caught one 36lb blue cat there one night.

I have caught a lot of Flats and Channels across from the pumphouse… I have been wanting to jug fish also… Catfish are pretty fun to catch…. Ive tried a few baits.. Liver, Gizzards. Minnows.. I have the most luck on minnows and Nightcrawlers… let me know how the jug fishing goes cause I wanna try that also….
