Well my rib healed and allowed me fish this past weekend and it seemed like an eternity! So, I fished the exact same as my previous posts only change was speed went from 1.5 to 2.0mph with 6 rods out and it paid off. We fished from first light till noon and had 24 nice crappie 2 cat and a big hybrid that got most of our lInes in a mess. All white crappie, no black ones. The crappie were all at least a pound and several were prob pound and half,3 had eggs drying up. No shorts. Grenada Shad and Hotty Totty were the top producers. Creel Officer counted and measured our fish and said it was the biggest and best crappie he had checked that day but was concerned that we had no short crappie.
Sunday morning we back at it again except my partner who is married, fishing pass expired at 10am. We had 12 nice slabs only had one under 13 inches they were all huge for Priest and came on the Hotty Totty ( didn’t touch the Grenada Shad weird ain’t it ) 3 cat that chose the Awsome Pink Bandit 300. For whatever reason the catfish love the hot pink, go figure …….
I will be back at it this weekend if my fishing bud bags enough points this week to cash in on a fishing pass, I have faith he will. Be smart and fish safe !!

So, I’ve never tried this method of crappie fishing but sounds like something I might try while the weather is hot and the fish aren’t very active. What type of structure is best for this – main channel, ledges along main channel, flats? Seems that you could lose a lot of crank baits if fishing around a lot of brush.

There is a learning curve for sure and you will lose some crank baits but it works really well for me in the summer months. I pull creek channel ledges off the main. If they have points that much better as I find most have lots brush piles on them. I use my helix 7 si with lakemaster plus and highlight 16-18ft and run it at 1.5 up to 2.0mph using bandit 300 crappie series that run 12 -14 ft depending on speed and amount of line out. They usually pull over top of brush. I watch for bait balls and fish on my screen, sometimes I can call the bite when the lines come over the brush with fish on them. Morning bite is better than evenings. Hop in my new Triton 17 CTX sometime and I don’t mind showing you how I do it or come out around Hobson bridge sunday at daylight and watch me go to work.

Thanks for the info and the invite. I may take you up on that ride along sometime. Coincidentally, I fish out of a Triton 17 TX that I bought about a year ago.

What Test Line are you using? I might like a tutorial also. I’ll bring the biscuits.

6lb. See my other post and it has everything I use. PM me if ya like. Confidence is the key. My friend took me one time and showed me what he did and we caught load of fish on kylake. I told myself I was going to learn to do it and I learn something each time I go. Did a lot of research reading everything I could and went for. It’s actually not that difficult, it’s the confidence in my opinion.

At japinson and others following this post. The friend that got me to pulling cranks is a retired plant manager at Triton in Ashland City at the time. He has a camp at kylake where I have fished for over 35 years or so during March April and caught tons of big crappie. I only started fishing the summer bite few years ago. The bite on kylake has been poor this year so I did something I have wanted to do for a long time, i now have the opportunity, and that is chase the crappie on priest. I have known for years about pulling bandits for crappie on priest it used to be the thing back in the day and I am just now getting around to it, and I am glad I did !!
