Crappie Report 4/24
So, I took my day off work to go fish on Thursday. It was terrible. I dont know why. The storms were coming in that night and the temperature was in the upper 70s. The fishing should’ve been on fire. I know Wednesday evening it was incredible. I get out there Thursday, and nothing. I started in Spring Creek and didn’t catch but 3 short fish on minnows. Switched to Fall Creek. Caught absolutely nothing. Went upriver some more. Nada. Came back to the mouth of Spring Creek. Caught 3 with 1 keeper. At 11:30, I decided to go bass fishing. However, on the way back to the Fate Sanders/Bryants Grove area, I had engine trouble. (Just a blown 10AMP fuse in the Etech but that was the first time that’s happened to me so it took me almost an hour to figure it out). At this point, I was just disgusted with the day. I headed back to the ramp with my tail between my legs. The only highlight of the day was catching a 10lbs Flathead on a ultra-light with 6lbs test.
Back at the ramp, there were about 10 or so people hanging around. Only one guy had done anything worth it crappie fishing. He had 8 keepers. Another man had 5 keepers. The rest of us? We had stories of tough days and big trash fish. Apparently it wasn’t just me so that did make me feel a little better.
I understand the bass fishing has gotten good on PP. That’s just my luck, the bass were biting and I decided to go crappie fishing instead of my usual bass fishing. Could’ve practiced for a tournament but the crappie fishing was so good this week I thought I’d go get some eatin’ fish. Ugh… so disappointing.
