Well I ended up catching 8 yesterday. Overall, it was slow fishing and all fish were small (10-13″). I started downtown (Simplecircuit I didn’t see you looking out the window haha), but i started down there because I picked up a few decent ones in the current breaks around the pylons last time I was out. Anyway, I still picked up a few on a green pumpkin tube, but they were small. I worked those areas pretty well with a tube, shaky head, crankbait and jerkbait. I did have several occasions where I’d get bit with the tube and would set the hook and not connect. I’d bring the tube in and all the tentacles were gone, so I had to put a new one on.
From there I headed back toward where I launched just south of Rock Harbor Marine off Charlotte. I fished just about any feeder creek I could find with the time I had and still only managed 5 more short ones. A couple here, a couple there, but I didn’t see the number of baitfish nor gamefish I wanted to see on my graph. Other productive lures were a small white spinner and slow rolling a red eye shad where I found some schools of shad.
Of the areas I have fished the last 2-3 times I’ve fished, the thing that has amazed me is the lack of shad I am seeing, both on pretty ideal main river and feeder creek/backwater areas. Yes, I’ve found some, but I haven’t found many and usually no bass with them. Guess I’m in the wrong areas lately.
Next trip around here may be to Priest.
