Yesterday I went out with BCGS guide Ben Malone for the day. Fishing for bass we had a fun day catching around 20 with several keepers.

We launched at Jefferson Springs and headed up lake into the West Fork. Starting at the blown out bridge 500 yards into West Fork we fished the left(deep) side. The water clarity was very clear at 53 degrees and steady current. I fished with a Hoppy’s Flea Flicker 1/8oz(black) with a blk/blue Pace Craw almost all day with the exception of a few cast with a shaky head which caught a few and the A-rig with no bites. We caught 3 fish on the left bank on shaky heads(1/8oz with Zoom Trick worm green pumpkin purple flake) and Hoppys jigs. We fished the right bank with one keeper on the left side of the point where the water was flowing by.

The next 5 hours we fished above the West Fork boat ramp. We focused on every rocky bend with current. As we fished down the banks we focused on areas behind big rocks where there was a break in the current. My 1/8oz jig fell slowly and stayed in the strike zone just longer enough to entice a bite! Each bend we caught 3-4 bass and lost several!

We tried fishing the A-rig a bit, but we had only 1 short smallmouth all day. I thought they would be eating the a-rig up with the clouds, clear water and current!

FUN day on the lake….especially because I caught 16 and Ben caught 3! He’s hard to beat sometimes, but I put a whoopin on him…lol!
