Today I headed out with William Brown(one of my guides) in hunt for some bass, white and yellow bass, whatever will bite. We were determined to fish with blade baits all day, and we pretty much did. Fishing from 7am-2pm we struggled. It was a very frustrating day because we fished in, around, and through bait all day.

We started fishing the channel on both sides Hong Kong Island and also in front of the island. We found bait in 20-45ft of water suspending and also hanging on the ledges. I was using a Hoppy’s V Blade, 1/2oz, all chrome and William switched around with colors. William caught one fish in front of the bluff, but it unbuttoned half way up.

We moved around to many different areas of the lake were there was bait holding on the channel drop or channel bend. Here are some of the areas we tried:

Drop offs near Long Hunter boat ramp – 30ft

Island on left before the Hobson Pike bridge(heading down lake). Bait was on channel drop off around 30-40ft

The flat drop off across from Hole in the Wall – 30ft

Most areas we just found bait and did not see a lot going on underneath them, but around Hong Kong Island we saw fish feeding in 20-25ft. There were streaks and spaghetti piles all over the bottom. I thought we were going to nail them there, but no luck.

I only caught 1 yellow bass! William caught a largemouth and 2 white bass. Although it was a tough day I feel like I learn more about the blade bait and details of the channel down lake. When I got home I had a package in the mail of some more blade baits. Im ready to go round 2 out there…..I have a bad itch for catching fish on that blade that I have got it scratch!
