I have been pondering which graph to go with between Lowrance and Humminbird. I really like the looks of both. I have had people tell me that humminbird is easier to use but I am not sure. I have eye balled the Lowrance hds 7 a lot. I love the 10s but the wife says I have to wait longer on it lol. Any help on the matter would be great. Also down imaging vs side imaging

I bought a Humminbird down-imaging because I thought it would give a straight down image of the bottom. Not true. Down-imaging give you a verticle view of the bottom … not a horizontal (flat) view. In hindsight, I would go with side-imaging. It gives you a wider field of view and allows you to “see” under docks and into brush piles without having to pass directly over them. Also, side-imaging is required if you want to eventually go with Humminbirds “true” 360 down imaging system.

    I have a Lowrance HDS-8 that I really like.
With the LSS Structure Scan, you can have down and side imaging on the screen simultaneously. Or use them separately. I’ve never used Humminbirds. So, I’m not sure how they work. I have been happy with all of my Lowrances though. I think at the end of the day, whatever you start with is what you’ll continue to use. You might also consider the size of the graph that you are looking to get and see which brand fits where you want to mount it.

Thanks J. That is something to really think about on the size of the graph. I do think I am going to go with a lowrance of some kind. The Hds 8 looks very good.

I love lowrance, but like simplecircuit said, what you started with or what your used to you usually stick with. I have two lowrance units and they seem to do the job well. Surprising, I have never had dsi or side imging. I have been on many boat that have them and know quite a bit about them, but have not bought then yet. Brian
