It is getting that time of the year where I would like to go fishing more but I have yet to invest in the proper attire. I was wanting to buy a waterproof coat / bibs combo with some boots and gloves as well. There are a lot of different options out there, so I wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on what they currently wear, recommend, or if they would do anything differently if they could buy it all over again. I was debating on getting an insulated set, but then it seems like you could only use them more for when it’s really cold out. I was then thinking about getting a mid-weight set, that way I could just add base layers for when the temperature really drops, but also be able to use them for a longer portion of the year. I appreciate everyone’s feedback!

I layer up underneath, but use the Pro Qualifier bibs from Bass Pro Shop. They work pretty good all year long.

IMO you can’t best goretex. Been wearing it for years and it stays dry and warm, keeps wind out also. I use the uninsulated camo bibs and jacket sized up and layer underneath as needed. I have both cabela’s and bass pro and use the camo deer hunting as well.

Layers work best for me… morning cold and boat wind protection of 25-30 degrees changes to 50 by mid day…as far as water proof…you have to make the call on your own fishing style-do you fish in the rain? So thermal unders with some type of removable wind breaker pant and coat work well. Under armour has all kinds of gloves and face protection…LL Bean has great stuff I use. Have fun.

Thanks for all of the responses that means a lot to me. I’m going to go the no insulated bibs / jacket route and layer up good as well. What kind of boots and gloves do you guys wear? I want to get a good boot that’s not too cold or hot.

Bass pro sells a neoprene fishing glove for about 20 bucks that works for me. I have 2 pair goretex boots, one light weight and one heavy weight in camo and use them deer hunting and fishing. My feet don’t sweat as the goretex breaths and is waterproof, also, wool socks are worth the money in cold weather.

Bass pro boots launching and trailering boat… Merrell water proof hiking shoes for fishing with “Red Head” wool socks from Bass pro (lifetime replacement warranty-wear a hole they replace(done that a few times)…again for me the boots get to hot when temps get above 40 and are a little cumbersome…

Launch boat in boots-tie up boat park trailor-change shoes- do the reverse when calling it a day. Water proof hiking shoes work great when all those fish you catch make your feet wet while your unhooking…and of course from the net with those giants!
