I’ve spent hours trying to perfect this knot but can’t consistently give it tightened down correctly, as I can pull my leader line out of the slip created from the braid and fluoro. Maybe it’s the slick braid to a 6-8# leader isn’t ideal. However, when I have successfully tied it, it’s been amazing. Due to it’s slim profile, it flies through the guides so nice you can’t even tell you’re fishing with a leader.

What knots are you guys tying? Anyone try this knot?

I’ve used a double Albright knot for years to tie mono/flouro to power pro braid it’s been solid. The line breaks before the knot.

I cheat I use a daiwa sokkou knot tool… There are other fly fishing knot tools that will work connecting leader to braided… Blood knots are good too but a pain to get them slick. If you use a daiwa with a T-wing system then the size of the knot isn’t that big of a deal. I almost forgot.. Double Uni knots too. When I am on the boat and need to tie a leader on I use the tool, but when I am home and tying up before a trip I prefer a blood knot or the FG… I always hit it with a touch of super glue though.

I’ve tied the Alberto knot, which is similar to the Albright, with good success for years but sometimes it gets stuck on the micro guides. Hence, why I guess I’m so intrigued by the FG knot. 😕

I don’t have an issue with the knot coming through the reel so much as I’m usually only tying a 6ft leader or so. But using super glue is an interesting idea…

I learned about the super glue when I first learned to fly fish and never had a leader or tippet slip and I was junk fisherman.. Hauled in Pike, Bass, smallies, you name it. You just have to make sure its flexible or its counter productive. Knot sense is a good one but expensive locktite has a flexible superglue for a lot less.

I like the FG knot it’s just a pain to tie with out a tool. Unfortunately the tool itself is pretty expensive. I tried to make on but it didn’t turn out too good. But out of all the braid to leader knots the FG is great. Low profile, goes through guides without a hitch and is really good for micro guides.
