I may have a mapping problem. When I try to go to the following coordinates, my GPS points me up on shore. Has anyone had success going to this location of Brian’s? Thanks very much.

N 36 03.258′ – 14ft at summer pool—Located off the Pooles Knob Public boat ramp
    W 86 30.587′

I had the same problem until I learned that my Lowrance HDS 5 would convert the cordinates Brian gave us into the format used by the Lowrance system. There is a menu item under SETTINGS for COORDINATE SYSTEM. Coordinate converters can also be found online. Hope this is the source of your problem and that it helps.

Brian: If I remember correctly you have a slighly larger Lowrance, what format do you use? Also I did find a nifty little FREE software program on line that lets you create waypoints, etc. on your computer download them to a disk and upload to your GPS. It too will let you select from several different cord. formats. It’s called easyGPS, I like easy. If anyone’s intrested it’s at:

I’ve just started using it but, it seems fairly straight forward.

Thanks for the advice on Position Format and Coordinate Conversion. I didn’t know any of that. Unfortunately, it didn’t fix my issue with Brian’s coordinates appearing on shore and otherwise off from his description. After spending 40 minutes on the phone with Garmin, it turns out that my GPS is working ok, it’s my base map which came with the eTrex that’s not accurate. In other words, I can get right on the Poole Knob brush pile with my device and the map will show that I’m on shore. I’m good-to-go, I just can’t rely on the map when I’m manually entering coordinates.
