I just bought the new AS GPS HS external GPS from humminbird. I have a 999 SI on console and 859 DI on bow linked through ethernet without ever any issues. Both units run navionics platinum chips. From the instructions, its just plug and play into the com port and the unit should recognize it. I cannot get either unit to recognize the external GPS at all. I tried to plug it into both units independently numerous times over the weekend and nothing. I’ve been through every setting I know of. I bought it to pinpoint crappie fish and I’m tired of the donut that jumps around. Both units have the updated 7.65 software and are both less than a year old.

My be a stupid question, but, does this thing need its own separate power source ran to it or does it run off the unit. Thats all I can think of because of the odds of both my com ports being bad isnt good. How can I tell if I just got a lemon?

Thanks for the help. I’m open to all suggestions.

Humminbird customer service is wonderful in my experience. Call them on the phone and they walk through it with you. Select GPS Combo unit when asked. I assume you have Gone to Menu-accessories-your external GPS to make sure it is selected under Advanced settings? I have the External GPS as part of Helix and 360 tales a couple of minutes to load up each time. Definitely call Humminbird. I’m sure they will trouble shoot and send you another if it is bad.
