Today was a interesting day! I started at the Fall Creek boat ramp where the air temperature was 45 degrees at 7am. I backed the boat into the water parked it on the ramp. I got into the boat and backed up 10 yards then felt mud hit the motor. I motored away from the boat ramp and found myself stirring up mud 15ft towards the main channel. I dropped the trolling motor and tried to go forward where it was a little deeper, but had no success. I fired back up the big motor and tried to push through, no success. After trying to wiggle, shimmy, crawl my way out I decided to turn around and put the boat back on the trailer….. I was stuck. The next hour I rocked the boat back and forth for 10 seconds and then used the trolling motor to move 4in at a time. I finally got the boat turned around to the ramp and put it on the trailer.
I was determined to fish so I went up to Jefferson Springs boat ramp and put the boat in. I let the motor idle for a while filtering out all the nasty mud from my motor and then threw a little extra water up onto the back of my deck to try to wash the mud off. After 5 minutes I was ready to go and cruised carefully into Fall Creek. I idled over the shallow flat on the opposite side of the boat ramp. Once I reached the PVC poles I drop the trolling motor. The water temperature was 50 degrees and stayed between 50-51 throughout the creek. The next 2 hours I fished my Alabama Rig from the middle of the channel to the rock drop off and the stumps on both sides of the channel in 3-6 feet of water. I caught 12 bass including 2 keepers on the Alabama Rig! I had another half a dozen bites and lost two as well! After making the turn back to the right the bite slow down. The most activity was the first 200 yards after it got deeper. Halfway into my trip it started freezing rain….. everything was covered. The trolling motor pedal, steering wheel, rods, me……. It was crazy. Also, I lost a pair of gloves somewhere and the only other pair I had got wet so I just bared it with no gloves. When I was finished my hands were so numb and tingling to the core. It was a crazy day like I said, but it was also very fun! Visibility was 2 to 3 feet as well!
