After a long, but very productive Boat Show last weekend I was finally able to get out for a couple hours this afternoon.

Launching out of Jefferson Springs with BCGS guide, Ben Malone, I headed up lake into the East Fork. We motored past the pump house on the right, around the big flat on the left and then stopped on the left bank where the rocks starts. The water temperature was in the mid 40’s with 3.5ft-4ft clarity! Casting A-rigs, 1/4oz Hoppy’s Black/Blue Flea Flicker with green Paca chunk, and 1/8oz shaky heads with watermelon/purple flake Zoom Trick Worms we fished the stumps in 5ft and then down the drop-off into 15ft. We kept our boat in the middle of the channel. We fished 300 yards without a bite.

We motored over to the West Fork and stopped at the blown out bridge. Clarity was 2.5ft-3ft with same temperatures. Starting on the left bank where the rocks start I fished with my shaky head. Halfway down the bank I had my first good bite, but missed him. Once we made it to the end of the bluff Ben hooked into our first fish on his A-rig…2lbs. Moments later I hooked into a nice spotted bass in the middle of the channel(16ft) with my shaky head. Again, 10 minutes later Ben caught a 3+lb, but this time on a white chatterbait. We fished for 20 minutes without a bite and made one last move while we still had a little light.

Our last spot was the second bluff on the left past East/West Fork intersection heading down lake. We kept the boat in 15ft(near the middle of the channel) and cast jigs to the rocks. I had one bite on my Hoppy’s jig and stuck a 3lb largemouth way off the bank! We took a couple more cast before we froze to death in the dark and then saddled up.

Not a bad 2.5 hours. 4 fish with 3 keepers!

Sounds like an awesome time on the water Brian. I know for the short period of time I was on the water Sunday morning the fish were def biting back around West Fork. I definitely like fishing that area. I just seen where you whacked them today to on top water. That’s really awesome.
