Forums Forums Percy Priest Lake JPP 11/4

Went to JPP yesterday morning from first light until 12pm. It was foggy early and then very overcast. Water temp was 63 and had a light south wind. Fished top water spooks and buzz baits, then transitioned to cranks and spinners. Fished shallow around 4 corners, cove by Hobson Pike Bridge, Bryant’s Cove, Hamilton Creek, and around 7 Points. Caught 2 short 12” fish early then nothing. Very frustrating day on JPP when I thought conditions would be perfect. Anyone else experiencing the same thing lately? I’m stumped on what these fish are doing!

Yes! Several very credible fisherman struggled big time yesterday trying to fish shallow! John Hopkins from Fate Sanders Marina said the lake is turning over, that’s why it’s difficult.

Thanks Brian that’s good to know. I usually don’t hear much about JPP turning over?

Hey Yeti14, when using the buzz baits, does it seem you have more success early in the morning on Priest? What color? Any pattern you have noticed?

Shanebeaty, I wish I knew… I was throwing 1/2-3/4oz black, black/red, and chartreuse when it was cloudy and overcast. Typically throw something a little brighter on clearer mornings such as white, white & chartreuse. I’ve had a tough time fishing early morning period lately. If the lake is “turning over” that may explained the tough bite.

Go deep during the turnover… We are not getting bit on anything shallow that has any size to it. Saturday 11/4/2017 I covered the lake from end to end just to find all of ours in 20 to 25ft on bluff walls right of the main channel. A 5.56 LgM came from 32ft on a blk/blu 1/2oz jig. Bass were chasing but not committing way up in West Fork, We did managed one 3LB keeper at blown out bridge but it was off the channel ledge.
