The other day I went out with 3 clients from 6am-2pm in search for crappie.

We launched out of Fate Sanders and headed down lake. We focused just past the second cut though on 4-6 trees near Youth Inc and across the channel. Staying in 12ft-16ft we caught 12-15, including 8 keepers. My clients were tight lining minnows 2-3ft off the bottom and I was fishing with a Crappie Magnet(Percy) on a 1/8oz.

Next we travel near Hong Kong Island and fishing 4 brushpiles on the flat in front of the island. Same lures in 12ft-14ft produced 15 more, including 8 keepers!

We motored towards Bryants Grove and stopped across the channel on the flat near the red channel buoy. Staying in 12f-16ft we loaded up 6 more keepers with several short fish.

Lastly, we headed back to some of the trees near the Youth Inc and caught 4 more keepers in 13ft. Total….28 keepers!

Good day on the water! Ill be on the water with Ben Malone doing some deep bass fishing and electronic reviews for our electronic lessons we are launching soon! Were you using the slow trolling method (0.5-0.7 mph) with the minnows and magnets that you were in the spring time?

No, I sit directly on top of the trees and fish vertically sitting still.

Once you’re over the structure and drop the jig to the bottom, how far do you reel it up before you tight line ? Also, do you jig it much or just keep it still ?

I reel up 2-3 turns. If I feel brush I feel brush I give it one more turn. Then I just keep It still and the minnow work for me. With the Crappie Magnets I reel 2-3 turns and then give it a little twitch every 5 seconds. I do not jig it a lot and get very few bites if I do.
