July 11 – Friday Report
This morning I fished a few hours with BCGS guide, Ben Malone. We did a lot of scouting and scanning down lake near the dam. After we located some fish we would fish for a few minutes and then make a move and get back on the side scan.
We started fishing a few new humps for me around Bear Island. Ben kept his boat in 22ft-24ft and we casted into 18ft-19ft. I fished with a 12″ plum worm with a 3/4oz weight and Ben switched between a 1oz jig and an 8″ spoon. We set the hook a few times on fish that would not commit and left after 30 minutes.
Next we headed over Goose Island and fished the right point. Sitting in 20ft-30ft and casting into 12ft-18ft we missed a few more and landed on short bass on a 1/2oz homemade shaky head with a green pumpkin rage craw. We did find several schools of bass that we could not get to bite.
We motored to seven points and fished some of the humps near the channel. Sitting in 18ft and casting into 14ft, I landed two on the same shaky head and Rage Craw.
We scanned around for a while and found some fish on the point I fished a week ago or so across from Hole in the Wall bluff. Fishing in between the green channel marker and white rock buoy I missed two more on the Rage Craw. We sat in 16ft-18ft of water and threw into 6ft, dragging slowly to the boat.
We ran into Suggs creek and fished another deep hump in the back I have never fished before. Sitting in 22ft and casting into 16ft we caught 2 more!
The name of the game today and most of summer was deep humps, ledges, and points! We found a ton of bass we could not get to bite, but was able to catch a handful. Ben Malone is a stud at using his electronics! I have had my structure scan for 4 months and have able to locate, catch more fish and most importantly have more confidence KNOWING the bass are down there. If you want to maximize your side and down imaging skills, let BCGS guide, Ben Malone, teach you. Call to book your teaching/lesson trip(s) today!!! 615-801-2408.
