What a day it has been! Today BCGS guide, Jacob Jewell, has broke a personal record, 30-40 bass, including best 5 near 30lbs!!! The big bass were biting, but not just anywhere or on any baits.

With the high lake level the bass have positioned themselves in areas of the lake where they can get behind structure in an “ambush mode”. They sit and wait until shad, crawfish and other prey cross their paths. With that said, mid-lake and up-lake have been productive. Humps, points and shallow wood, have been areas where the bass have been concentrating. Look for these areas near the channel, where the current is passing by…….the more current…the more food passing by!

Another pattern that has been productive is finding bait in the back of coves mid and up lake. You will need to search different coves to find shad, but once you do, there should be bass there! One key ingredient that you need to search for is areas where there is dead weeds/grass from last year(when the lake level was low and weeds grew). The bass have been moving into this great structure and feeding on the bait!

Soft plastics have been the producer, particularly the Bombshell Turtle(in the softshell color) and Shakes Alive Craw by Attack Pak! Both of these lures were fished on 3/16oz and 1/4oz. Also, topwater baits including spooks(silver and blue) have been producing in the mornings!

    Tight Lines,
