The crappie were biting very well today and there were key ingredients to our success.
First, depth this time of year is crucial. You need to be fishing in at least 12ft of water and no deeper than 25ft. This is where I find most of my crappie during the summer months.
Second, we found our crappie in brushpiles.
Third, with the lake level descending to summer pool, there is still a lot of current in the main channel. The brushpiles in or close to the main channel did not produce many crappie, the current was too strong. However, the brushpiles outside the channel where the water was standing still produced tons of crappie(this was the most important ingredient to our success today).
Lastly, the fish were eating up our Crappie Magnets! Most of our fish came on black/chartreuse on 1/4oz. Crappie Magnet jig heads.
Thight Lines,
Brian
