July 16!!
Posted by philip-nichols on July 16, 2014 at 12:37 amForecast for tomorrow looks amazing!! Anyone else going out? I’ve been out of town for the passed week saltwater fishing in Florida having a blast with the kids but ready to get back to home town fishing. Hopefully the top water bite will be on early plan on fishing between fate sanders and 4 corners starting off bass fishing then prob switch to crappie later in the morning. Good luck to anyone else hitting the water in the AM!!

My son and I have been out on the water all day today – put in at Long Hunter ramp and went all the way past Fate Sanders ramp hitting many spots. In all of my years fishing – today was the first day I have ever been skunked. Not one fish in the boat the entire day. 🙁

Wow!!! Hopefully by tomorrow they will have settled. Run into any dirty water from all the rain we just got?

I just got home from fishing. Had a good day. I’ll have a report up soon.

We didn’t notice the water being cloudy or muddy anywhere we went. At one spot we had bass hitting the water all around us but they wouldn’t hit anything we were throwing out. Still had a good day on the water despite no fish!

Had a similar morning. The first 45 minutes I had bass feeding on top all around me. I threw buzz baits, spinner baits, cranks, pop R’s, lizards nothing worked!! I then tied on my old buddy the fluke and it was game on!!! All my fish today were between the abandoned jones mill boat ramp and the big rock point out in front of it. Had a few bass on the island to the right second cut through deep rock point at start of the cut through by the red channel buoy. The bass were inhaling the fluke had to perform surgery on a few to get the hook out. Cool thing was the visibility I’d let it sink up to 2 ft and could still watch them attack it. Had around 20 bass total no monsters mostly schooling bass but a lot of them were measuring fish 15-17 inches. Fished there for first few hours then tried to find some new spots. Had no luck so came back later around 12 and started catching them again. It was a blast!

Caught a 3lb, 8oz LM off the big rocks where the long point across from Stewart Creek launch area meets the bank on a 10″ worm. Saw fish schooling, so threw a prop bait and then a shallow running shadrap with no success. As with Philip, after tying on a fluke, they couldn’t resist. Most of the fish caught at that location were spots.
Then went further up the creek past the abandoned boat ramp. Fish weren’t schooling, but you could see a loner breaking the surface here and there. Again, the fluke did the trick. I usually reserve the fluke for overcast or rainy days, but it worked just fine today.

Ok please share about this fluke – colors? size? New to fresh water fishing – always lived on the coast so learning as I go.

I am trying to knock out my honey do list tonight because with the weather being what it is and the fish biting I just have to go agin in the morning!

Thanks so much! I’ve ordered some. Headed out of town for about 10 days so going to miss this beautiful weather and fishing. Keep posting updates!

Fished Jones Mill area last evening from about 6:30 to dusk. The fish were there but they wouldn’t hit a dang thing a threw at em! I know they were there from both my electronics and the surfacing activity. Threw buzzbait, shallow crank, worm, spinner bait. Fished slow, medium, and fast retrieve, they weren’t feeding I don’t guess, just playing 😉
