Went out on Monday and Tuesday mornings this week. Unfortunately, didn’t have much luck. The past month or so has been some of the best fishing I’ve experienced on Hickory, but it seems that all of the schools I have been on have broken up. I probably scanned 20 spots that had been holding fish consistently and didn’t mark anything worth throwing at. I decided to move up shallow and fish some grass and docks. I caught about 10 or so fish each day, but most were dinks (although I did manage to pull one 4lbers from a tree top). The bass just seem to be really scattered.

Hope you guys are having better luck than I am. Hopefully it’ll turn around soon for me

Not any better luck here. I’ve struggled the past couple times out on Old Hickory. Caught one here, one there. Nothing to pattern or write home about. Hopefully things start to pick up. Thanks for the report, keep ’em coming!

I’m heading back out in the morning to try again. Really hoping I have some better info to report tomorrow.

Just out of curious what section of the lake have you been concentrating on and any particular lures/baits working better for you?

Most of the time I fish between Bluegrass and Rockland with a lot of that time in Drakes Creek. For the last month or so my most productive lure has been a football jig (1/2 or 3/4 Oz depending on the depth) fishing points and ledges. This week has been different. Schools I have been on have scattered and the fish I have managed to catch have all been caught shallow ( <10ft) on lay down and docks with a small flipping jig or Texas Rig plastic. I have caught a few near grass on buzzbait and did manage 2 decent fish deep today on a 10 inch worm.

Oh man, literally thrown everything but the football head this year. That clearly has to be my issue… lol. 8-P

Thanks for the insight, Whit. Your comment about checking 20 or more spots in a single day has got me thinking… I think I’ve got a BAD habit of spending too much time on a spot that I’ve marked fish. I gotta work on a “running and gunning” approach more and worry less about trying to throw every lure in the box trying to “fire ’em up”. I can always return to a spot that I have previously marked fish at.

Thanks again for the reports, Whit. Hopefully your deep fish turn back on here shortly!
