Fun morning on the lake crappie fishing with a few regulars. We started across from Long Hunter state park at the long point that comes out against the channel. Fishing brush piles in 10 to 16 feet of water we caught 8 keepers and several short fish with live minnows in 2 to 3 feet of water. Next we focused across from Mousetail island on the west bank of Ponderosa. Staying in 15 feet of water we caught a dozen more keepers and several short fish with the same technique. The last few hours we focused on the southside of Mousetail Island. We fished four trees in 10 to 18 feet of water and finished up with 27 keepers. It was a very active morning before it got hot. Saturday I fish the Noel charity tournament and continued my slump. I caught a bunch of fish, but had a hard time finding the big ones. Are most productive areas were the mouth of Spring Creek fishing with deep crankbaits on the ledge in front of the PVC poles. We had a big school fire up and caught probably 15 in 10 minutes with two at a time. We put several in the livewell that were 2lb keepers, but never got a giant. Other areas we caught fish were the left point at the mouth of Lamar Hill. With the boat sitting in 15 to 20 feet we threw up into five or six dragged our 1/4oz shaky heads with a Zoom trick worm in green pumpkin or a wobble head 5/8 ounce with a Baby Huey Plum worm. We also caught a few on the crankbait which was the same one we threw all day A Strike King 5 or 6XD in different shade patterns. We also hit the hump in front of Fate Sanders a few times with the boat sitting in 14 feet we caught some cruisers out of 11ft on plastic worms, but never had any good keepers. We also spent a few hours below Hobson Pike. Fishing just passed the bridge on the right under the power lines we kept the boat in 20 feet of water and fished a hump in 12ft on top. Casting our plastic worms and big crankbaits we caught a short fish, but never could get a keeper there. On the next point down om the right where it’s 70 feet up against the point with a long sandbar with a PVC pole we marked a bunch of fish and caught one solid keeper on a 5xd crankbait. We tried several other areas down there without any success. We knew we didn’t have enough to compete so we threw our fish back and call it a day.
