Had a ball today! I did not fish any new places, but the fish I have been catching were on fire!
Most of the day I crappie fished with a client. We started around 8am and finished around 1pm. For the day we caught 22 keepers and caught around 50 fish. We only fished 9 trees and caught fish on all of them, except one!
Half of the crappie came out of Youth Inc area. In front of the red channel buoy I sat in 10ft-14ft on top of the hump. I fished 4 trees on that hump and caught crappie at each! Live minnows tight lined off the bottom 2ft-3ft and casting 1/8oz Crappie Magnets in green/chart, spicy mustard, and pearl/black flake(with red head) caught just as many as the minnows.
After the bite slowed down we moved over to the flat in front of Hong Kong Island. Fishing 4 brushpiles there we caught the rest of our keepers. We fished the same baits the same way. The fun part about this area was the yellow bass, stripe, and hybrids were chomping!!! We caught a ton of fish….it was so much fun!
When the time with my client expired I took him back to the dock and then cleaned my pontoon boat for a few hours. After my guide came in from a whackfest of a guide trip…42 bass, I said lets go back out of an hour.
We idled to the big point(on the left) at the mouth of Stewart’s Creek and parked the boat in 25ft-30ft. We started casting shaky heads with Magnum Trick worms in pumpkinseed(Zoom) and a Strike King 6xd in sexy shad. We cast to the top of the point in 10ft-12ft and pulled our lures over…BOOM….BOOM! Every few cast we would catch a 1lb – 3lb! After 45 minutes and 12 bass we idled over to the rock hump in between the two red channel buoys(one is small and plastic and the other is bigger and metal). Sitting in 10ft-14ft and making 30 yards cast into 8ft on top of the hump we both started burning the 6xd in SS and a 6xd in citrus shad. Almost every cast or every other cast we would get whacked and bring in a bass, white, or hybrid! We could only fish for 20 minutes there and caught well over 20 fish!!! IT WAS AWESOME!!! It was the perfect time to leave because I did not want to get in trouble at home and there was a HUGE storm rolling in.
All and all, couldn’t ask for a better day!
