June 25 Crappie
The last few days the crappie have been a little slower. I think this has to do with all the storms moving through. Just 12 hours before the first storm the crappie were HOT…then it slowed down. This is not to say the crappie fishing is slow…just slower. We have still been catching a lot of crappie mid and up-lake in 12fft-20ft on live minnows 2ft-3ft off the bottom in brushpiles and with yellow/chart Crappie Magnets fished on 1/8oz jig heads.
Mouse Tail Island which has been on fire for me the last few weeks has now turned back to normal:( Yesterday I fished around Mouse Tail island, the flat across from Hong Kong Island, around the Youth Incorporated camp, and across from Bryants Grove. We caught a lot of quality keepers with just as many short crappie. We have been getting 1-3 crappie on a brushpile and then it slows down and we move to another tree.
Crappie fishing through July will be stay active! It’s a great time to get fill the freezer!
