Yesterday I was out with 87 year old regular client from 11am-3pm. With live minnows Crappie Magnets ready to go we pulled up to our first set of brushpiles on the south side of Mouse Tail Island. Fishing trees in 12ft-18ft around the sand hump we caught just one little crappie and a bluegill on a spicy mustard crappie magnet. We moved over the long point in front of Long Hunter Cove and fished around the red channel buoy. Fishing in 12ft-14ft….nada. Next we moved to the cypress tree in the water in front of Bryants Grove cove. We fished 2 big trees in 18ft, catching a couple short crappie and another bluegill. Getting frustrated I cruised to the Youth Inc area and fished 2 giant trees in 14ft. We caught 2 keepers and a couple short crappie. We took a break for lunch while I drove back to Mouse Tail Island. This time I stopped on the east side where the channel butts up against a long flat that comes out. It goes from 15ft-60ft. There are a few trees on this drop where we caught 4 keepers on our minnows! It was a slow crappie day on the water, but we did get enough for him to take home!
