Some of my trips were cancelled today so I went out for a few hours by myself. Fishing for bass I caught around 12 fish, including 5 keepers for 12 pounds.

The first spot I fish was the hump across from Bryant’s Grove boat ramp. I used shaky heads with a 6 3/4″ Zoom Trick worm in green pumpkin/purple flake. I had 3 bites that came in 6 to 8 feet of water on the drop off into the channel…..one of which was a 2lb keeper. One of the hot spots on the hump seemed to be out in front of the white PVC pole. There are shallow rocks that extend out further into the channel and the bass have really been holding on them.

The second spot I fished was near four corners marina, the big point on the left once you enter the no wake buoys. Casting rattle traps and buzzbaits in 2-4 feet of water onto the point I had 0 bites. I backed off the point into 14 to 16 feet of water and cast crankbaits and Trick worms…. 0 bites again, so it was time to move.

My third spot was the big rock hump about the middle of the channel across from Bryant’s Grove Cove. Fishing with Carolina rig baby brush hog in green pumpkin/red flake and using a 1/4oz shaky head with green pumpkin/purple flake I caught around 10, including four keepers. All the fish seem to be coming out of 6 to 10 feet of water on the drop offs into the main channel. I fish deep diving crankbaits and rattle traps a few times today and never got a strike.

All in all it was a good day on the water for just a few hours of fishing. Looking forward to the Saturday morning tournament tomorrow. Hopefully the fish will still be there!

We weighed in 11.5 lbs in the Friday Night Tournament last night. Competition is becoming tough, as First Place required 17+ lbs with
Second Place having 15+ lbs. Third Place was also above our weight, so once again we were just contributors. Summer pattern is definitely coming around, so hopefully we will soon be taking an envelope home. All of our fish were caught on 7.5″ worm.

Sounds like you had a decent night. Good weight all around. Were you catching them shallow or off ledges? Love those 71/2 ” worms.

Caught most of them on steep transitions including ledges.

I lost what appeared to be a 5 pounder on a ledge yesterday morning. Throwing a SPRO Little John DD and it popped off of a rock and he hammered it. He came to the top and threw the hook on one jump. We targeted main river channel ledges and humps. The quality was there, but the quantity was lacking. We had 6 fish with 4 of them being keepers. Got to talk to a DNR employee who was conducting livewell checks and fish surveys. He was telling us the quality of fish in the lake is improving over what it was 5 years ago. Planning on fishing in the morning and making a long run towards the dam and working ledges on the way back down to Fate Sanders.
