have heard of people stuffing dog food or fish food to draw in Crappie and catfish… Anyone eles ever heard of this??? im told either put it in a pvc pipe or a 5 gallon bucket with lots of holes??? I use to deer hunt and hunting over bait is Illegal…. So just had to ask is it legal or illegal with fish??? If legal it minght be a good way to catch catfish on the hot lazy summer days…… just thought id ask. a friend told me this so id like to know before I try this summer for catfish.. And please don’t say if you don’t get caught. That’s not the point… I never keep catfish but they are fun to fight and catch, so id like to know if this is Legal…

alot of friends of mine has done this a few times over the years, with great results…Is it Legal?? tough question,,, we sink crappie beds and structure thru out the winter for fish, which i obtain permits from TWRA to do so, the permits are free and TWRA is very helpful in that matter, they do have a few do an donts, and it says what they are right on there application..thou i have never been asked for a sinking permit at Priest, i have been asked several times at Old Hickory to show it,,kind of all depends on the Game Warden, or the Corp of engineer people,, the Corp will tell you they own the land and TWRA controls the water,,its kind of confusing,,, my advice is to call 615-781-6622 an ask for Todd, that is the number for the local TWRA office they have always helped me with what ever questions i had about do or donts, Todd St. John is a super good guy and will help you with anything…. Hope this helps my friend..

It’s chumming, just like grinding up herring and chumming for striper or catfish.
