Today I fished from 7-3pm with two clients. Our goal for the day was to help my clients better understand different areas of the lake and how to pattern bass.

Throughout the day I explained why we were going to certain areas and why we were using certain baits.

We started in the back of Spring Creek. The water was 53 degrees, but there was very little bait and activity. We only fished the flat across the fingers coves. We fish rattle traps and spooks. The first 15 minutes there was no activity at all. Then for around 10 minutes bass were breaking the surface here and there feeding on shad. We were able to catch one nice bass on a Rat 2.75 Red Shad after casting to where bass was chasing a shad on the surface.

Then we motored over to Fall Creek. It has been a little slower there, but with the warmer temps I wanted to take a few cast. We started past the boat ramp where the channel deepened to 8ft. Casting shaky heads to the rock back on the left we caught 4 quickly. We were casting into 2ft and dragging into 8ft around stumps and rocks. As we continued further into the creek we caught 4 more casting to some of the white PVC pipes. We fished another 50 yards with a couple more on shaky heads/ 6″ Zoom Trick Worms.

I wanted to mix things up a bit, so we headed back down lake towards Fate. We pulled into Sister Cove and started fishing in the back left pocket. We fished back out on the right side casting Minnow 2.5 Tread Fins and spinnerbaits in 1ft-3ft of water. The first 5 minutes we caught one short fish. Then I realized the water temp was 56 and quickly tied on a 3/8oz white buzzbait. 50 yards down the bank….BOOM, 3.5lbs! We continued down the bank another 100 yards with no activity. I thought the buzzbait was going to be the ticket, but it never really developed.

Lastly, we moved over to the shallow side of Stewart’s Creek long rocking point. Fishing with buzzbaits and spinnerbait in 1ft-2.5ft….nada(the water was 57). We trolled over to the little island(just 100 yards towards Fate Sanders. There is PVC pipe on it) and continued with our Minnow 2.5 Tread fins and spinnerbaits. There we caught 4, including 2 keepers in 1ft-2ft of water in the rocks!

We fished the cove across from Fate Sanders with no bites and headed in.

All and all, great day. My clients learned a lot and we caught over 15 bass! The water is now climbing near 60’s and mid lake will start turning on. I will be out Monday and Wednesday fishing mid and down lake……excited to see what bites!

    Brian,
Where is sister cove? Is that the cove just to the east of the Fate Sanders Public Area on the map?

Sister cove is the cove next to it(down lake from it). The rocks tapper out gradually from the bank on north bank….great for a shallow bass bite! Brian

If your coming out of fate sanders it’s the cove to the right 100-200 yards away.
