The last two days have been great for crappie! Both days I spent some time trolling 8 rods with 1/32oz Crappie Magnets, both orange/chart and green/chart. Each spot I trolled I caught TONS of crappie, but 95% of them were short. I fished the flat at the mouth of Stewarts Creek….keeping the boat in 6ft-10ft. I also fished the Lamar Hill channel from the mouth to the boat ramp in the same depths…same results. Again, maybe 1 keeper every 10 crappie. Same results on the flat to the left before Spring Creek.

It was not until I made my way into Fall Creek where I started catching keepers. Once I passed the boat ramp I would fish almost every stump I could find. I have been fishing with a floats and minnows and casting Crappie Magnets in 3ft-6ft. 1/16oz jigs with a chartruese jig head and Killer Katt Magnets and red/chart has been the most productive colors. Like most springs the bite is slower in the morning and better in the afternoon….after is warms the water up. I fished as far back as I could where the water temperature was 61 with 3ft visibility. At the mouth the water was 57 degrees and 1ft visibility.

The crappie are going to be on fire for several weeks now. You will probably have to wait to clean your fish at the cleaning stations!

Thanks for the report Brian. I will be back out this afternoon trolling for crappie and will post a report tonight. Last weekend we had a ton of short fish but the keepers we had were nice big fish. If they have moved up into Fall Creek I may try trolling some flats/bays from last year that had not yet held fish. 61 degree water temp may have them real shallow in the back of the bays. 3-4 more degrees and those shallow spots will be loaded up.

Boat trouble on Wed….new starter being put in today and won’t be ready till 4 pm. Really wanted to scout today for the weekend. Have a buddy from Illinois coming down to crappie fish. Hope we get some good reports, meant to fish twice this weekend and missed both chances!
