Today I fished from 8am-2pm and what a day it was!

Fishing with one of my longest clients Jerry the “Hagman” Haglege, we caught 60 crappie including 31 keepers!

Almost the entire trip was spent in the main channel around Spring Creek and into the mouth of Spring Creek a little. We trolled with 6 rods spooled with 6lb test. Crappie Magnets was all we used on 1/32oz Crappie Magnet Double Cross Jigs. Our best colors were orange/chart, black/chart, white, and purple/chart.

We kept the boat in 10-16ft along the channel ledge, trolling at .7-1mph. Very easy technique with a lot of results. We talked to two guys that passed us and they said they hadn’t caught their first crappie yet. I told them what we were doing and that we had caught 15-18. However, I could tell they were frustrated so I didn’t proceed to tell them we actually had caught 43 at that time and had 15-18 keepers! Gotta love trolling(for a few hours….I can’t help but pick up my casting rod to feel that “tick” and set the hook too)!

Is there specific bushpiles in that area you were targeting or were the fish just relating to the break along the river channel? 1/32, that’s light! If I’m understanding this correctly, you’re just casting these light jigs out and then slowly crawling them until your get hung-up or a bite? Either way, that’s an impressive day!

No, we would run over some here and there, but just fishing ledge. We are not reeling them in at all, just casting back 25ft or so and then trolling them slowly until the rods loads up with a fish. The 1/32oz are down about 6ft I think.

Cool. Thanks Brian, I’ll have to give that a whirl next time I’m out.

Based on Brian’s description above, I’d guess he’s somewhere in this area.
