Yesterday I had two crappie trips in the cool, cloudy, wet weather. It sounds like it would be a tough day…..but we kicked their butt. Combining both trips we caught around 75 crappie, including 52 keepers!

Throughout the day we used 2 lures….floats with minnows and floats with Crappie Magnets. We used a 1/32oz red Crappie Magnet jig head with a purple/chart Crappie Magnet.

We started on brushpiles around Pooles knob boat ramp in 4ft-8ft of water, catching 12 with 7 keepers. Next we moved to Jones Mill Cove and fished isolated wood in the back in 4ft…..only 1 keeper there. We moved down lake a few hundred yards and pulled into one of the coves along the bluff wall. Fishing a brushpile in 9ft we caught several more including 2 keepers. That entire area had 1ft visibility and was 61 degrees.

Our next and best spot was Fall Creek. We idled to the back where it gets really shallow across from the boat ramp and started fishing any and all the wood we could find in 1ft or deeper. The water was much clearer with 2ft visibility and 62 degrees. Fishing with the same lures, just adjusted our float, we caught around a dozen more keepers!

On my second trip in the rain we went back into Fall Creek. With the front moving in and the rain coming down, we caught tons of crappie, yellow bass, and largemouths! In total we ended up with 27 keepers! Same pattern, just fishing any wood we could find.

The crappie have cranked up. After this could front it will be on fire for a while.
