March 6
Today I crappie fished from 12-4pm with two clients. After yesterday’s goose egg fishing down lake in standing timber, I was ready to catch some crappie. I knew that it would still be tough since the water temperature has not warmed up at all, but felt like we could have a decent day.
I headed straight to Spring Creek hoping the crappie had moved into the warmer water. Fishing with black/chart, white/chart and Dude Special Crappie Magnets, we pulled up to a giant tree that someone put in the water on the bluff wall before the finger coves. This tree is in 13ft and sticks about 3ft out of the water! There, we caught around 10, including 3 keepers. We fished toward the back with no bites until we made it to another big tree under the water and caught 5, including 3 more keepers. We fished to the feeder creek with no bites and then hooked up the trolling rigs.
We trolled back through to where we started with no bites and decided to try some brushpiles on the main lake. It was very muddy out there, but we managed to catch for more with another keeper. We tried a few more brushpiles with no luck.
The water back in Spring was 52 and main lake was 47. Crappie were definitely holding to the wood.
Can’t wait for this warmer weather to get here!!!
